With a local economy based on both industry and tourism, Brasov is considered one of the most powerful cities in Romania. A large part of the industry is based on services, construction and consumer industry. Also, the large number of Romanian and international companies located here represents a landmark in choosing Brașov as an important business location.  

In 2019, Brasov companies reached a turnover of 10.9 billion euros, up 7.6% from the previous year. Out of the ca. 25,000 companies that submitted the balance sheets, the first 100 generate 56.88% of the total turnover. And out of the 100 companies, 40 have 100% Romanian equity.

On the first place in the ranking of exports from Brasov county are cars and electrical appliances, in a percentage of 37.9%, followed by means of transport with 28.2%. These figures place Brașov County on the 5th place in the national ranking, regarding the volume of exports, with a percentage of 5.15% of the total exports at national level.

Demografic

Brasov has a population of close to 300,000 inhabitants, being one of the largest cities in the country. The larger metropolitan area is home to circa 550,000 residents. With a rich multicultural background, Brasov brings together a great diversity of local and national histories. The 7th city of Romania is also a business hub, attracting constantly new population due to its central geographical location.

Industrial

From an industry point of view, Brașov has reborn in recent years. This is also proved by the fact that at the end of 2019, in the top 100 strongest companies in Brasov there are four companies whose turnover has exceeded the threshold of one billion lei per year:

2. SELGROS CASH & CARRY SRL
3. SCHAEFFLER ROMANIA SRL
4. PREH ROMANIA SRL

Schaeffler Romania, a local subsidiary of the German Schaeffler group, has expanded its production and logistics capabilities, with an emphasis on increasing productivity and cost efficiency, both in the automotive and industrial sectors, especially in the production segment for the railway industry.

With a team of 5,000 active employees in Brașov, Schaeffler Romania is one of the largest production locations within the German group.

Schaeffler Romania has become the supplier of major manufacturers in the automotive area, and products made in Brasov (tripod, RSTO or camshaft phaser) are delivered to most major car manufacturers.

Another major player on the local production market for the automotive industry, Preh Romania has registered in the last year a 20% increase in turnover delivering car components for major brands such as Audi or Mercedes.

With many other facilities being under development, including Brasov International Airport - currently under construction in Ghimbav - Brasov is becoming one of the increasingly attractive cities for the business area.
